Mandated by the archbishop, sustained by the Spirit, the
Religious Education Department is committed to assist in the development and nurturing of
a living, active, and conscious faith in individuals and communities; and also committed
to the support of catechists especially in rural areas.
What
we do
- Born of the Spirit
series: The catechism series "Born of the Spirit" is the
religious education program authorized by the Canadian Bishops
Conference (CCCB) for Canada, and by Archbishop Daniel Bohan of Regina
for use in the schools, parishes and homes of the archdiocese. The
Religious Education Coordinators of the Archdiocese assist pastors,
parishes, catechist coordinators and catechists to become familiar with
the program and the new editions of the parish and home program as they
are published. They affirm the efforts of the local catechists, and
support prospective catechists with faith formation, lesson preparation
skills, and scheduling.
- Home Correspondence: An at-home study of the Catholic faith designed for Canadian families with the same content as the school and parish editions; administered by the Department of Religious Education of the Archdiocese of Regina.
Detailed program
information.
- Sacramental
Preparation: Religious Coordinators assist parishes and families
with the recommended diocesan programs for the sacraments of First
Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation, helping them to integrate
faith concepts with their daily lives. Diocesan Coordinators assist the
local catechist coordinators in offering meetings for the parents of the
candidates during which their responsibility in the religious formation
of their children/youth is outlined. As well, they are given an overview
of the sacramental program, a brief history of the sacrament and the
church teaching pertaining to it. Coordinators may also offer retreats
and reviews for the candidates and families in the final phase of the
preparation period.
- Adult
Faith Formation: Religious Education Coordinators are also available
to assist any interested adult members of the parishes they serve in the
further growth and understanding of their Catholic Faith. This may take
the form of presenting sessions to an RCIA group, sacramental
preparation for Baptism or Marriage, or assisting with other parish
programs of faith formation.

Our department publishes
Re-Soundings Lifeline
four times a year.
It is an inspirational/informational communication "by catechists, for
catechists". It gives special catechetical attention to the liturgical
seasons. Check it out.
Religion Teachers Journal is available from the Multi Media
Library. It is published monthly, and contains suggestions to enhance your catechetical
sessions as well as for faith development.
The Resource
Centre has two video programs called
"Empowering the Catechist" and "Enriching the Catechist". They
are valuable for catechist formation and training, as well as adult faith enrichment.
