January 28, 2010 Dear Pastors and Parish Ministers, You may be aware that the Anglican clergy of the Diocese of Qu’Appelle have invited Frčre Emile, one of the brothers of the Taizé community of France, to lead their retreat in early February. Taizé is an ecumenical community with close ties to the Catholic Church. The Archdiocese of Regina’s Taizé prayer group has been in contact with Frčre Emile as well, and he has expressed his willingness to host an evening at Holy Child parish, Regina, on February 11 from 7 pm to 9 pm. The gathering will include prayer in the Taizé style and spirit, followed by a presentation by Frčre Emile, and a reception, and will be open to all Christian communities. I would encourage you to make a special effort to invite the youth in your parishes. You will find attached a bulletin insert. We ask that you include this in your bulletin the weekends of January 31 and February 7. A little background on Taize: Taize has become synonymous with peace, reconciliation, communion, trust and love. Brother Roger Schutz, the founder of Taizé, sought to build up a small community of brothers from different Christian communities who would live together and witness to the Gospel call to unity and reconciliation …” where love would be at the heart of all things". Little did he think that hundreds of thousands of youth would be drawn to the ecumenical spirit of his community or that they would come from all over the world to spend time in Taizé. Our world, and we within it, are in need of peace. This evening is a unique opportunity, especially for young adults, to come together to pray for peace and to learn about the spirit of peace embodied in the Taizé community. To my knowledge, this is the first time that a member of the Taizé community is coming to Saskatchewan. Please encourage parents to bring their teens and young adults and friends (of any denomination) to this gathering. Thank you very much for helping spread the word about this great opportunity. Monsignor Don Bolen For the Ecumenical Commission of the Archdiocese of Regina, and the Taize Prayer Group Committee Bulletin Insert The monthly Taizé prayer group is pleased to announce that one of the Taizé brothers from France, Frčre Emile, will be coming to Regina. As far as we know, it is the first time a member of the Taizé community – an ecumenical monastery in France, with strong ties to the Catholic Church – will have visited the Archdiocese. You are cordially invited to an evening of solidarity, peace and reconciliation with Frčre Emile, on Thursday, February 11 from 7 to 9 pm at Holy Child Parish, 2636 – 7th Ave. East, Regina. Msgr Don Bolen, Bishop-elect of the Diocese of Saskatoon and formerly Chair of the Ecumenical Commission, will introduce Frčre Emile. The evening will include prayer in the spirit of Taizé, followed by a presentation by Frčre Emile, and a reception. Members of all Christian communities are welcome, and a special welcome is extended to teens and young adults and their friends. (NB: Please - not suitable for young children.) The brothers do not accept gifts or donations for themselves; however a freewill Offering – for Taizé’s “Operation Hope” is invited. You can find out more about Taizé and listen to the songs on their website: www.taize.fr. |
