Development and Peace Animator to Retire

May 11, 2009

Saskatchewan Provincial Animator Michael Murphy will retire this summer after working for Development and Peace for 16 years in the province and a 40 year career in international development. Here is Michael’s message:

“As I count down the months between now and my retirement in early August, I look back with great pleasure and satisfaction on my time as animator in Saskatchewan.

I have been privileged to serve as a link between some of the finest people that I have ever met, both here in this province and in the countries where we work in the global south.

I would like to thank the teachers, the pastors, the sisters and the bishops who have enthusiastically supported the work of Development and Peace and my work as animator. I would like to thank the good people in the pews who have supported our campaigns including land for the landless in Brazil, the right to access to clean water worldwide and an end to abusive practices by Canadian mining companies overseas, and who have donated so generously to Development and Peace through Share Lent or Share Year-Round. And I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers who are the human face of Development and Peace in the parishes, schools and youth groups across our fine province.

I have been honoured to serve you. God bless you all.”
