July 15, 2009 We have a new Catechetical Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Regina: Michael (Mike) MacDonald. Date of Birth: January 13, 1951 Place of Birth: Heatherton, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, Canada Marital Status: Married, with two daughters Languages spoken and written fluently: English and Spanish Since 1984 Mike has been involved full-time in education and social change in North America (through awareness building) and in Latin America (through education, and development projects among the poor). He has contemplated a return to Canada over the past year, and to investigate an area of work that is faith-centered, justice-oriented, and education-related. Besides many years of experience in Mexico, Mike visited the following Latin American countries: Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Peru (3 times), Bolivia (2 times), Ecuador, Panama (2 times), Costa Rica (2 times), Nicaragua (5 times), El Salvador (2 times), Honduras, Guatemala (2 times), and Cuba. From the very beginning of his inquiry into this job position, Mike has expressed a deep desire and interest “to be a part of a team that is attempting to ‘effectively minister to the people who make up the Church in the Archdiocese of Regina’ and to ‘implement a vision that decentralizes the services of the Archdiocese and revitalizes the Deanery structures’”. Mike leaves his wonderful ministry and people of Chilpancingo, Guerro in Mexico to return to Canada with his wife and two daughters. He will begin his ministry with us in the Archdiocese on August 4, 2009. We welcome him with open hearts and with our prayerful support.
