Help Fulfill a Cuernavaca Dream

October 13, 2009

The Cuernavaca Project has been a social justice activity of the Archdiocese since 1992. Many young people and adults have travelled to Mexico to learn about the culture and the needs of our Mexican friends. Because of their experiences, they have learned much about the giving nature of people who have so little and know that we need to do something for them in return.

The goal for this year is to fulfill the dream of the Centre for Encounters and Dialogue (CED) in Cuernavaca to build a school open to the people of the Cuernavaca and the surrounding area.

To do this, they must purchase land and materials to build the physical plant. The construction of the school will be done by the people who have benefited from CED's programs.

CED's Goals
  • to teach organic farming methods which will increase production of the ancient grains and eliminate the use of genetically modified grains shipped in from other parts of the world.
  • to teach the use of natural fertilizers, composting methods, and soil preservation.
  • to show the benefits of using solar ovens for cooking, solar energy for home heating and composting toilets to protect the water table.
  • to use the land to sow, grow and harvest grains and other healthy vegetables which could be used to feed the participants and/or sell in the local market. The knowledge learned will be taken back to their villages and used to provide healthier food for the children.
  • to incorporate a restaurant/market into the school that could sell food to the locals. This would provide a steady yearly income to CED
  • to allow CED to be self-sufficient and remove the need for continued support from NGO's such as the Cuernavaca Project.

CED's Needs
To allow this to happen, we would like to raise as much money as is possible in the next 9 months. We believe they will need at least $10,000 to purchase the land and another $10,000 to build the school.

How You Can Help
Make a one-time donation to the Cuernavaca Project. You will receive a tax-deductible receipt from the Archdiocese of Regina. Please make your cheque payable to the Archdiocese of Regina with attention to the Cuernavaca Project.

Mail it to:
Cuernavaca Project
102 Pappas Cr.
Regina, SK S4R 7G8

Plan a fund-raising event and invite all parishioners, families, friends and colleagues to attend. Turn all monies ear-marked from this fundraising event to Cathy Moen at 586-0149. This money will be forwarded to the Archdiocese of Regina and then to Cuernavaca ,Mexico.

Encourage family and friends to become part of this very important social justice project and ask them to support you and your ideas.
