September 18, 2009 The Regina Archdiocesan 10th Annual Appeal has again set a goal of $1.25-million and Financial Officer Barry Wood emphasized the importance of the Appeal to carry out the Church’s ministries and missions. “It is central and critical to the operation of the Archdiocese.” said Wood. According to Wood normal revenues less committed expenses would leave about a quarter million dollars to carry out all the Church ministries but the missions and ministries of the Archdiocese total something over $1-million. “So as a starting point we’d be about a million dollars short and we’d like to even do more.” The $1.25-million goal is the same as the last few years but it hasn’t been met for a few years. Last year’s total Appeal revenue was $1,140,022 distributed among 25 programs, ministries and organizations. Besides the various programs offered through the Archdiocesan Office, the Appeal also provides support for several organizations and charities. Health Care Chaplaincy and Rural Catechetics were the two largest recipients at $142,317 and $127,860 respectively. Friends on the Outside and Refugee support were at the bottom end of the scale at $4,000 and $3,000 respectively. Other recipients included youth activities, support for seniors homes, education and charitable institutions. There is also a Special Programs and Projects Fund which last year received $41,863. Parishes that exceeded their goals received 80% of the amount raised over their goal and that amounted to $66,432. It cost $128,104 to mount and manage the campaign. Each campaign begins in the fall and runs to the end of June the following year. This year’s campaign is divided into 5 sections.
Volunteers began preparing the materials which are expected to be ready for distribution before the end of September. |
